Assumptions for The One by Kiera Cass

*Will contain spoilers for Book 1+2 but none for book 3 obviously since it's not out*

I know I said this in my last assumption but the Selection has to end. It just does.

Also I think America is going to be fighting for Maxon more in this book. In the previous two books she took Maxon for granted but now after almost being kicked out and the threat of Kriss she is going to have to fight for him. America is going to have to tell Maxon about Aspen being a guard in the castle or else that is just going to blow up in her face.

As Maxon wants to trust America more I think we are going to learn more about the running of the country and the war in New Asia. Also the King is going to try to sabotage America at every turn and I think he will break her at some point.

Also I think the rebels will do something BIG! Whether it’s just a huge attack on the castle, possibly a kidnap situation or they will broadcast information in the books. I can sense some huge political thing is going to arise because it’s a dystopian and that has to happen. Also I want to find out more about how her Dad is involved in the rebels because I am certain that he told them about the diary America had. It just had to be him.

Oh and obviously I think that Maxon will end up with America. Aspen can just go away I don’t really care what happens with him.

And I would love for something nice to happen for America’s maids because I just love them. They are so good to America and how they are helping her win the Selection. Also I want to see more Marlee. I want to know if the King will find out but I really just want America to have her friend back!

I am so excited for this book to come out! Let me know what you think will happen because I want to hear all of your opinion. Have a great day!

The Elite by Kiera Cass

NB- This will be full of Spoilers

I was looking over my Assumptions for The Elite (which you can look at by clicking here) and I was proud to say I was spot on for some of them however, I was wrong in other aspects.

I was wrong in that the Selection would end I mean there are still five girls in it. However, the books! I called it I knew books would come up! When Maxon showed America the room of books I was wondering why it was so highly protected, but when America was reading the diary it became clear very quickly. I was yelling at the book when America told her Dad because it was clearly a HUGE secret that Maxon trusted her with and she just went off and told her Dad. Then coincidentally only a little while after that the castle was attacked by Southern rebels twice and they stole books. Does that mean America’s Dad is involved with the rebels because there was no way that they would have known otherwise? I am intrigued to find out.

Also that diary! IllĂ©a was evil wasn't he! And the King knows exactly what he did. I hate the King, I never really trusted him but after finding out what he did to Maxon I hate him with a passion. Also what was with that trip to New Asia? There is something fishy going on there. Why won’t Maxon talk about it? Why did they go into the countryside? What is going on?

Now Aspen. I was right in suspecting there would be more of a play for Aspen in this book but I was glad the way it happened. America stopped seeing Aspen as an option over Maxon but just an option if Maxon didn't want her, which I liked because Team Maxon all the way. Apologies to any Team Aspen people out there but I was so glad when she told him to leave her alone at the end. No she didn't break it off but she was so close.

The Marlee scene, I was so upset. I almost cried because I cared for Marlee just as much as America and I was so proud of America for standing up for her. I can understand why America was upset with Maxon for that. I honestly was feeling the same thing but she took a bit long to realize that it wasn't his fault. America was annoying me because she was being such a girl! Maxon told her that he was going to pick her and that she should plan her princess suite yet when he didn't pay her much attention she went off and did that Report! I was squealing because she was so reckless. The King scared me so much after America gave that report I thought he was going to banish her or something. I also love Maxon so much more for sticking up for America.

I loved the scene when Maxon and America were in the safe hatch thing. It was all too beautiful. They finally started to talk to each other about what they were feeling. Then Maxon explained what he was doing with all of the other girls and even though we got the impression it was over between them it was just a beautiful fairwell.

The ending was so nerve wrecking. First I thought she was leaving. I was crying when she was saying goodbye to her maids, then I started to cry when Maxon came up and told her she could stay! But fair play to Maxon for finally taking control of their relationship. He finally took control and told her where he stands and what he needs from her. I am really nervous to find out what will happen with Kriss. This love triangle has turned into a square and I am terrified.

Those are my basic thoughts on the book. Let me know yours.

Book Discussion: City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

This will include Spoilers. You have been warned.

"What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments"

*Again spoilers will definitely occur!*

Favourite Parts:

1. Simon's description of his inner vampire:   Simon-"He wants me to wear midriff-baring shirts and a fedora. I'm fighting it." Clary-  "So your inner vampire is Magnus?"
2. Isabelle admitting she likes Simon to Jordan
3. Isabelle asking Simon for a bedtime story:  Isabelle- "No I want something I haven't heard yet."     Simon-"Okay. I've got a good one..... A long time ago in a galaxy far,far away..."
4. Isabelle and Simon arguing over Simon raising Raziel
5. When the real Jace comes back for a night
6. Magnus being inappropriate during the battle: Magnus-" Speaking of hope, did you see that shot Alec got off with his bow? That's my boyfriend."
7. Jace and Clary during the Epilogue

Discussion

Just to get this out of the way quickly I missed Jace. The real Jace I really did it just wasn't the same. Now into the book I felt really bad for Simon with his mother and I teared up when he told his sister. Overall in this book Simon was by far my favourite male character (even though it was partly because Jace was possessed). I love his relationship with Isabelle and am so happy for them both. Although I am now scared for him because he doesn't have the Mark of Cain anymore, now I'll have to worry about Simon too on top of everyone else. Also Simon was the savior yet again with the Angel and the sword and just being the hero.

Now onto Alec. WTF was he doing making deals and having meetings with Camille? Honestly Alec is just so immature in his relationship with Magnus I want to slap him. I mean taking away Magnus' immortality. I was so upset when they broke up, hopefully they'll get back together because they have to. And what are they going to do for a warlock now? Will they have to pay for one? Speaking of Magnus, was anyone else as upset as I was when he got stabbed because I thought he was dead and was on the verge of tears.

Mia and Jordan. I love them together I called it even when she attacked him and hated each other I called it! I was so happy when they finally got together it was just so cute!

Sebastian. I did not think I could hate him anymore than I already did but I guess I was wrong. First he brain washes my Jace and takes him away and makes him go loopy. Then he almost kills Luke, steals Clary away. I will be honest even though it pains me to say it I almost wanted to trust him. He kept saving Clary and being nice to her and had kind of stopped being so obviously evil  but then what does he do? He becomes a pedophile! I mean first that comment he made about Clary in bed I thought ew, because I had forgotten that he a Jace were connected or I never really thought about whether or not he'd sense anything when Clary and Jace were intimate. Then I honest to God thought he was going to rape Clary talking about how incest isn't a bad thing. I mean it was OK when I thought it was Clary and Jace but not with Sebastian!

The ending! "I'm coming"..... I'm terrified. Because there will be a war and people will die but I can't think about that right now because I am just too emotional. I don't want to know, I am so excited and nervous for this next book.

Also I feel like I am in limbo because I am reading other books that aren't in this world and I find myself thinking where are the demons? So next on my to buy list is The Infernal Devices trilogy!

As always let me know what you think. Have a nice day.

Book Discussion: City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

Apopligies in advance as this will be quite generic and not in as much depth as the other reviews.

Favourite Parts

When Luke explains colours for weddings: Luke: “Brides wear white to symbolize their purity.”                   Simon: “I thought Jocelyn’s said her dress wasn't white.” Jace: “Well, I suppose that ship has sailed.”
The Mango Scene
Jace and Clary in the alley after Simon’s gig
When Jace runs to Clary in the infirmary after she was attacked and their whole interaction
When Clary and Jace are left alone after the battle with Lilith

Discussion

Jace annoyed me I just willed him to tell Clary about the dreams he was having instead he kept running away from her! I loved when Jace finally told Clary what was wrong with him. I loved going to see the Silent Brothers again because I honestly love them so much.

I loved Simon in this book I really did he was one of my favourite characters. Also my wee Simon was a player! Two girls at once and a groupie! I loved how much Simon changed an how he's no longer the geeky side kick to Clary. He has finally come into his own and is bad ass! That Mark of Cain can do some freaky stuff, I loved how he killed Lilith with the Mark it was such quick thinking but if I'm being honest I kept forgetting Simon had the Mark so I kept panicking when he was getting attacked.I felt so bad for Simon because he went through a lot of crap in this book: his Mum won't speak to him because he's a monster, he lost both his girlfriends and he turned the groupie (I forget her name)
Alec pissed me off so much in this book. Obviously Magnus will have dated other people he's hundreds of years old! I don't understand why he kept getting so jealous it got me really cross.
I hated Lilith she is probably my least favourite villain because she is insane! I mean everything with the babies that made me want to be sick also she blumin' well possessed Jace that is not on!
I like Jordon I do I like how he came into the story and how he's protecting Simon I like him in the story he was a good addition.
One of the main things that annoyed me about this book was how Jace and Clary squandered the time they had together! For the past three books almost they weren't together properly and now they finally are and they spend half of that time fighting and avoiding each other. Granted there were some pretty good kissing scenes and scenes where we really saw them as a couple but I wanted more!

As always let me know your thoughts. Have a great rest of your day.

Book Discussion: City of Glass by Cassandra Clare

"To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters - never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realises exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her new found powers to help save the Glass City - whatever the cost?

Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the final instalment of the New York Times bestselling trilogy The Mortal Instruments."

*Spoilers will occur*

This is my favourite book in the whole series so far. I read it so quickly that I didn't pause to make any notes so I am working purely on memory.
This book was so full of action and so much was happening so quickly I could not put it down! Firstly Jace bugged me when he didn't bring Clary to Idris, then Clary bugged me by recklessly drawing her own portal and being flung into Lake Lyn and bringing Luke with her!
Can I just say I knew something was up with the Inquisitor and I called the Sebastian thing. I knew from the second she ran into him that he was her real brother. But one thing I didn't call was Hodge. When Simone found his wee friend in the cell I wondered who he was but when it turned out to be Hodge I was genuinely surprised!
One scene I loved was when Magnus was the warlock they went to see and the chimney messages. That was funny. Apart from that the nest thing I really remember is Sebastian killing Max and the war. Did it bug anyone else that Jace ran off on his own? I know he was some Shadowhunter extraordinaire but that was stupid!
I genuinely thought after Valentine killed Jace we were going to see some kind of change in him. I almost wanted him to redeem himself. But no he acts like an idiot making Clary a mute and embarrassing himself in front of the angel. It was sweet when Clary asked for Jace back but I was almost sorry we didn't see more of the war. We saw Simon's "Mark of Cain" in action a little bit but I really did want more in terms of fighting. I wanted to see Clary's bonding rune in action more!#
I was so happy about Jace not being Clary's brother but his whole story line of Valentine making him one of his experiments, then cutting him out of his dead mother then raising him in a separate house. I thought was a little too complicated. Also I felt bad for Jace when he was at Valentine's funeral because even though he was a crappy fake dad he was the only one Jace had and I felt bad for him. But, to look at this book at with a deep point of view, I loved at how in the end Cassandra Clare explores the whole idea of family when Jace was trying to figure out what his real was. It was such a good point and honestly was probably one of my favourite parts to the book.

I loved this book. I didn't go into too much detail and left out a lot but there was so much that happened in that book I couldn't cover it all. Let me know your opinions!

Book Discussion: City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

Spoilers will occur

"Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?"

Favourite Parts:

  1. The fights in the Seelie Court over who will kiss
  2. When Jace tells Clary how he really feels
  3. Jace's effect on Valentine's change of plans: Luke- "What makes you think that Valentine's change of plans had anything to do with your brother?"  Clary- "Because only Jace can piss someone off that much."

Discussion:

This is where the story really comes together. We're off looking for Valentine we learn more of his plan and there is a lot more action! The main thing I hated in this books was how I was acting towards Jace and Clary being together. I was reading it thinking both "Ew you're brother and sister" then seconds later "Who cares incest isn't a big deal get together!" I was so conflicted within myself.
I loved Clary's power with the runes and the scene where she tests out the fearless rune on Alec was hilarious. Also what was Jace doing? Granted he redeemed himself but he went off finding Valentine and kept calling him father it was just awful. I hated the inquisitor she was just horrible!
Simon is a vampire now. I did not see that coming, also that whole situation where Simon was trapped in the van and the sun came up I was so scared. But it's cool he's a Daylighter. That's fine. I also loved the Seelie Court I hated the Faeries but loved experiencing there world and learning more about them. In fact I loved learning about Downworlders throughout the book. We learn more about vampires through Simon and Werewolves through Luke and a little bit about Warlocks. I really want to learn more about Warlocks though.
My favourite part of this whole book was the boat scene and the fight with Valentine. I was so proud of Clary for just being kick ass with her rune power. Then Jace with his amazing Shadowhunter skills- it was awesome.

Sorry for the scatterbrained nature of the post but I was writing as I was remembering scenes from the book.

Book Discussion: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

*Be warned spoilers may occur as I read this a long time ago and don't remember when events happened*

"When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end."

Out of the whole series I will have to admit that this was probably the my least favourite. Although it was still brilliant. Cassandra did a fantastic job of building the world of the story and this whole book almost was focused in on building this world of Shadowhunters, Vampires, Fair Folk, Werewolves and Warlocks.
If you begin this book you have to give it at least 100 pages because I will admit it can be a bit confusing to begin with you have no idea how confused I was with the idea of Steles and Runes. After 100 pages you get a grasp of the world of the story and this is where the main plot begins.
*Spoilers with definitely occur from now on*
In this book I really disliked Simon and Isabelle and even Alec which, now that I've read on in the series, feels so strange. But in this book I was routing for Jace and Clary and squealed when they had their first kiss and was so excited and Simon and Isabelle and Alec felt like they were a threat to them being together. You can imagine how heart broken I was to learn at the end of the book that they were brother and sister! I almost cried for them, it was just so unexpected. Oh, can we just talk about what the hell was going on with Jace? He went from being this kick ass Shadowhunter who was quick and clever to being the most gullible person ever! I mean he really believed Valentines crap about Hodge wanting the Mortal Cup and he defended Valentine. I know that a lot of stuff was floating around in Jace's head but really I was shouting at him! And Hodge....... I was hurt, I trusted him and he just through that way.
My favourite part in this book was the Silent Brothers, they are just too amazing I loved them. I love how they travel by a horse drawn carriage and speak to your mind it was just so cool! Then there's Magnus, how could you not love Magnus I MEAN HE WAS FABULOUS!!!!!

That's my thoughts on City of Bones, let me know yours!

Books I Read in October

This is short this month because honestly I just didn't read that much. I have been in this reading slump for some reason, it's been taking far too long for me to finish a book for me anyway. I think the reason for this would be because:
 1. I bought an awful lot of books and my TBR pile is scaring me a little
2. I have been spoiled for the ending of Alligiant and I am just very sad because of the ending and the fact that I haven't even read the book yet.
3. An awful excuse but school and my life in general has been crazy lately
4. I am kind of in a book mourning period for the TMI series because I'm half way through the fifth one and I don't want to finish it almost because the next book doesn't come out for ages!!!

And after that rambly start here are the books I read in October:

Books I read in October:

  1. An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
  2. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
  3. City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare
  4. City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
  5. City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

That's it I feel like a failure for reading so little. But there is always next month and as you can see in the side bar I have a great TBR pile so hopefully I'll make a dint in that.
